Today is an extraordinary day in our family.
Not only are my mom and dad celebrating 50 years of marriage, but it’s also my mom’s birthday. It’s hard to imagine a more fitting way to celebrate a life than to do so alongside fifty years of faithfully loving the man she married.
Mom and Dad, congratulations on your Golden Anniversary, and Mom, happy birthday!
Half a century of marriage. Half a century of serving Christ together. Half a century of building a legacy that has shaped not only our family, but countless others along the way.
As I look back over your lives together, I realize your greatest accomplishment isn’t simply that you’ve been married for fifty years. It’s how you chose to live those fifty years.
From the very beginning of my life, you taught me what it means to follow Jesus Christ, not merely through words, but through the example of your daily lives. You faithfully studied God’s Word, remained committed to prayer, stayed involved in your local church, and served wherever God opened a door. Church wasn’t simply a place you attended; it was part of who you were. Ministry wasn’t an obligation; it was a joy.
You showed me what a Christian husband and wife should look like. You taught me what it means to be a godly father, husband, and a faithful servant of Christ. You taught me scripture, disciplined me when I needed correction, answered my questions with biblical wisdom, and even as an adult continued pointing me back to God’s Word whenever I needed direction. When life became difficult, you comforted me. When we disagreed, you always spoke the truth in love. No matter what season I found myself in, I knew I could count on both of you.
Your marriage wasn’t perfect, but it was faithful.
You experienced more hardship than many people realize. Together you endured cancer, surgeries, an amputation, sickness, ongoing health struggles, financial hardship, bankruptcy, the loss of parents, the closing of a business, and countless disappointments that could have easily discouraged you.
Yet you never stopped trusting God.
You continued loving one another, serving one another, and faithfully walking with Christ even when life became incredibly difficult. Looking back now, I realize your greatest testimony wasn’t that you avoided hardship, it was that you remained faithful through it.
You also embraced the blessings God gave you with grateful hearts.
You worked incredibly hard to provide for our family and sacrificed so that I could attend Christian school and later graduate from Christian college. We didn’t always have the best brands names or the biggest house, and we certainly didn’t grow up with everything the world considered important. But we always had exactly what we needed.
Looking back now, I smile remembering that even when money was tight, you still found ways to bless me with some of the things I hoped for as a kid. Those weren’t extravagant gifts, they were expressions of your love and your desire to give me joyful memories. Those memories filled our humble home in Lorain, where our family learned that love, faith, and laughter matter far more than square footage or possessions. Years later, after decades of faithful work and perseverance, God blessed you with the opportunity to build your dream home in LaGrange, a reminder that His blessings often come after years of patient faithfulness.
You also made sure my life was filled with experiences I’ll never forget. Family vacations became treasured memories that still bring smiles today, not because they were extravagant, but because we experienced them together.
Throughout your marriage, you continually looked beyond yourselves.
You served faithfully in your church. You invested your lives in children’s ministry. You shared the gospel through your Christian bookstore and used it as more than just a business, it became another opportunity to minister to people in our community. Everywhere you went, your desire was the same: to serve Christ by serving others.
Now, after fifty years together, you have entered another wonderful season of life. Retirement has given you opportunities to enjoy the fruit of decades of hard work. You can now travel and enjoy the sites across the states you’ve always wanted to and spend time with your six grandchildren (when you’re allowed to). I, alone cherish watching you pour the same love, wisdom, encouragement, and faith into their lives is a beautiful reminder that your legacy is continuing into another generation.
When I think about what defines your marriage, one phrase continually comes to mind: Unwavering faith. Faith in real life.
Not because life was easy or everything always worked out the way you hoped, but because you chose to trust God through every season. You served Christ, each other, your family, your church, and your community. In doing so, you quietly demonstrated what a Christ-centered marriage looks like.
Your greatest legacy isn’t your home, your careers, your business, or even fifty years together. Your greatest legacy is that your children and grandchildren have been able to watch two ordinary people faithfully follow an extraordinary Savior.
I thank God every day that He chose you to be my parents.
Thank you for every sacrifice you made that I never fully understood as a child. Thank you for every prayer you prayed, every lesson you taught, every loving correction, every encouraging conversation, and every example you set. Much of the man I am today was first shaped by watching the two of you.
Mom and Dad, congratulations on your Golden Anniversary.
Mom, happy birthday. Thank you for your endless love, your gentle strength, your faithful prayers, and the godly example you’ve been throughout my life. I pray the Lord blesses you with many more birthdays, continued health, and the joy of seeing the legacy you and Dad have built continue to flourish for generations to come.
May God richly bless both of you as you celebrate this incredible day together.
I love you both.
Happy 50th Anniversary… and Happy Birthday, Mom.

Thank you son, our greatest desire is to finish well for Christ! We are now 70 years old and have experienced and seen this trail called LIFE! It has been extremely difficult and we’ve seen many mistakes we have made as well as others around us and the results of making poor choices without God’s directions being involved and everyday is a new challenge to conquer, but we have faith in God who offers GRACE, MERCY, and never cuts us out with boundaries set to punish us! We are moving on till God calls us home to be in heaven with HIM! 🙏♥️
