When Life Hits All at Once, What Do You Hold Onto?

A man sitting beside an open Bible, journal, and “Faith Over Fear” mug at sunset with scenes of family, work, prayer, and life pressure, representing trusting God when everything hits at once.

Some weeks don’t ease in. Life hits all at once.

Work stress. Bills stacking up. Gas prices climbing. Food costing more every time you walk into the store.

Then life gets personal. My daughter’s car broke down. Responsibility doesn’t pause. Pressure doesn’t wait.

And just like that, your mind starts drifting. Not toward peace, but toward problems.

When Life Hits All at Once, Focus Slips

You start calculating everything. Thinking ahead. Trying to control what you can.

And without even realizing it, your focus shifts. Not all at once. Just enough.

But here’s the part that matters. Even in the middle of all that, I’ve been showing up. Praying daily. Reading my devotion. Asking for forgiveness. Not perfect, but consistent.

Some areas I’ve stayed disciplined. Some I’ve let slip. And if I’m being real, one of the biggest is reading my Bible. Not because I don’t want to, but because life gets loud, and I let it.

That’s the battle most people won’t admit. Not just stress. Distraction.

What Sits in Your Mind

I’ve got things coming up too. Doctor appointments. Blood work. A procedure ahead.

The kind of stuff that sits in your mind if you let it, and slowly turns into worry.

“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3, KJV).

I used to read that verse as a promise that my plans would work out. Now I read the second half. Commit it to God, and your thoughts get established. Settled. Steady. The worry doesn’t get the last word in your head.

What Really Matters

In the middle of all that, I saw something that reminded me what really matters.

My son, in the middle of his own busy life, still showed up to help his sister with her car. Working. Taking care of his own family. Handling his responsibilities. And still making time to help someone else.

That’s the kind of character that doesn’t get talked about enough. I’m proud of him.

At the same time, I’ve been missing my oldest daughter and her family. Life gets busy. Schedules don’t line up. Time passes quicker than you think.

But we’re going to change that. Soon. Because family isn’t something you get to when you can. It’s something you make time for.

Not What I Want, but What I Need

Here’s something I’ve been learning the hard way: God doesn’t always give us what we want, but He always provides what we need.

Paul put it this way: “This same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Not on our timeline. Not how we picture it. But in His way. And that takes real trust.

Men feel pressure. We carry it and think about it. Most of us deal with it quietly.

But faith isn’t weakness. It’s discipline. It’s choosing where your focus goes when everything around you is pulling you the other way.

A Prayer

Right now, I’m asking for prayer for a special family member in Florida. I don’t need to explain it here. God already knows, and I trust that’s enough.

I also want to pray for you, whoever is reading this.

God, bless the person reading this. Pour Your grace over their life. Give them peace in the middle of whatever they’re facing, and answer their prayers in the way they truly need. And if they don’t believe in You yet, move in their life in a way they can’t ignore. Show them they’re not walking through this alone. Amen.

When Life Hits All at Once, What Do You Hold Onto?

Life doesn’t slow down when you’re overwhelmed. It keeps moving and demanding. And it keeps testing you.

So the real question is this: when everything starts piling up, what are you holding onto?

  1. I love this! We know that there is power in the word there is power in prayer and while we are in the flesh, we allow life to get in the way of our blessings in our relationship with God. When you take everything out of the equation, he is the same God today tomorrow and yesterday. Hallelujah.

    1. Amen, I appreciate that. You’re exactly right—He doesn’t change, even when we do. It’s so easy to let life get in the way, but coming back to Him is what keeps us grounded.
